How to Choose & Apply Blusher

How to apply blusher is a question I am always asked.

Cream blusher is very good on mature skin as it adds a dewy finish.  Dot the cream blusher on to the apples of your cheeks and blend towards the temples.

Powder blushers are better for combination skins.  Apply with a brush.  Tap excess of the brush.

Gel blushers are great for oily skins.

ONE foolproof-tip is to choose a shade that matches your cheeks when flushed.  Or match your cheeks to your lip colour.  As a rule, fair skin looks great in rose and peach and darker skin suits apricot or red.

Before you buy blusher, test it in natural.  Pastels, such as pretty peaches, liven up your skin.  Dick Page, global creative director for Shiseido, recommends trying different shades. ”Find one that illuminates your skin and make sure your complexion looks healthy and bright” he says. ”Just experiment. Start with soft pink or coral, and if you think you need something brighter, go with rosy reds or deeper mauve plums if your skin tone is warmer. “The look of natural flush is more flattering, so I prefer pinkish reds and reddish plum tones”.   Try Shiseido’s luminizing satin face colour in starfish, which highlights and illuminates the skin and gives a vibrant, healthy quality .

MAX FACTOR make-up artist Caroline Barnes says “If you’re under forty, blusher should be used as a subtle hue on the cheeks to add freshness and health. “For your base, imagine you’ve been wearing sun glasses and have a subtle ski tan,so the tone around your eyes are lighter “then you’re free to use blusher in a creative way.  Try it on the apples of your cheeks or under the cheekbones for contouring.  Blush placed to low down on the face can drag it down.  Too high can and the face can look too long instead use the centre of the ear as a guide.  Use the brush in a swirl motion over the apples.  Use the brush back and forth horizontally, rather than vertically.

To define the cheekbones more apply a bronzer under the apples of you are cheek , while sucking in. Cream blusher over the apples and bronze below give a great effect.

I love Blank Canvas blusher brushes and again a great Irish company.
